Meet the Team
Michael Walter - Author
At school, I was good at English. Not so much spelling and stuff, but essays and writing. A ‘vivid imagination’ is what one of my teachers said I had, and I guess he meant that I had lots of ideas. I found that words were more interesting when expressed in a creative way, with a distinctive or innovative point of view; and I liked poetry too, and would often write about things in verse, which was fun.

My family lived in America for a number of years, so our three children enjoyed an education in both countries. Business was an adventure, with travel to exotic lands and lots of tales to tell the family. We read books at bedtime (sometimes the same one over and over again) and we even made up our own stories, which were often more fun. Maybe that’s where this passion for children’s books was nurtured? I didn’t notice at the time.

Our children had lovely grandparents. I hope we are half as good. The word ‘BuZZy’ came from Great Grandma Dee-Dee, who used it to describe people and things she found cute or interesting. She was a musical comedy star of the Gaiety Theatre in the 1890s and enjoyed an elegant and fashionable lifestyle in the company of actors and celebrities and the King. She had many a tale to tell.

Now I have more time for myself, my greatest pleasure is to spend time with my granddaughter Alice, who is just five, and her little brother Brodie, who is two. My BuZZy Friends stories were written for them. Each character has an individual personality, created to reveal a variety of experiences; and the BuZZy Code serves as a gentle guide to good behaviour.

So, as a new children’s author, I am excited to see my first series of books in the hands of children. My mission is to provide information and ideas to stimulate young minds, and to enjoy reading the BuZZy Friends books with children everywhere.
